Brook Yanlin is an artist with some experience in mixed media, music, and video. This film marks his first venture into filmmaking. It portrays an artist seeking inner balance by burning paper—an act that becomes a ritual of release from anxiety and helplessness. The work draws inspiration from China’s COVID-19 lockdown in 2022,
the pressure of postgraduate entrance exams, and the local tradition in his hometown of burning paper for ancestors. Created as a response to his own internal unrest caused by societal tension, the film offers a quiet gesture of resistance. Yanlin hopes that viewers may find in it their own sense of serenity and freedom.
